Under close supervision, performs a variety of unskilled road maintenance and construction duties for Hays County.






An offer of employment is contingent upon successful completion of background checks, including reference checks, criminal history, and driver’s license checks and driving history.

Transportation candidates will be required to successfully pass a drug, alcohol screening and functional capabilities testing.

Required Qualifications:

Education and/or Experience

Road or concrete construction experience preferred.

Vehicle maintenance experience preferred.


Other Qualifications, Certificates, Licenses, Registrations, Requirements

Class "C" Texas Driver's License.

Class “B” Commercial Texas Driver’s License preferred.

Employees must provide and wear lace up safety boots, as described in the Hays County Safety Boot Policy for Road and Bridge.



Required Skill

Skill in understanding and following instructions and procedures related to street maintenance and construction.

Skill in performing basic street maintenance and construction tasks.

Skill in following established safety procedures and guidelines.

Skill in operating tools and equipment used in road maintenance and construction, such as chain saws, shovels, rakes, two-way radios, rollers, broom trucks, pick-up trucks, backhoes, loaders, tractor mowers, brush chippers, and traffic control devices.

Skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with supervisors, co-workers, vendors, outside agencies, and the public.

General skill in minor vehicle repair, to include oil change.
